Minimal Stimulation IVF (Mini StimTM)

Minimal stimulation IVF embraces the concept of a "gentle ovarian stimulation".  The goal of Mini StimTM IVF is to obtain enough eggs for a fresh transfer only.  The steps involved in Mini StimTM IVF are similar to those with regular IVF - the primary difference being the lower amount of medications used and the decreased number of monitoring sessions required.  Patients choosing Mini StimTM are likely to feel less discomfort from ovarian distention, and have a significantly reduced risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.  This stimulation protocol may be an attractive option for several groups of patients, i.e. those who have moral/ethical concerns over embryo or pre-embryo cryopreservation, those for whom taking off from work is difficult, and those for whom cost is a significant factor.  Cost for Mini StimTM IVF is approximately two-thirds that of a regular IVF cycle.  Not every patient will be an ideal candidate for Mini StimTM IVF - if this option is of interest to you, please discuss it with your physician.
