Minimal stimulation IVF embraces the concept of a "gentle ovarian stimulation".  The goal of Mini Stim^TM IVF is to obtain enough eggs for a fresh transfer only.  The steps involved in Mini Stim^TM IVF are similar to those with regular IVF - the primary difference being the lower amount of medications used and the decreased number of monitoring sessions required.  Patients choosing Mini Stim^TM are likely to feel less discomfort from ovarian distention, and have a significantly reduced risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.  This stimulation protocol may be an attractive option for several groups of patients, i.e. those who have moral/ethical concerns over embryo or pre-embryo cryopreservation, those for whom taking off from work is difficult, and those for whom cost is a significant factor.  Cost for Mini Stim^TM IVF is approximately two-thirds that of a regular IVF cycle.  Not every patient will be an ideal candidate for Mini Stim^TM IVF - if this option is of interest to you, please discuss it with your physician.
